A Soldier vs. Michael Moore, Inc.

I have to get some work done, but this is just too good to pass up. Every once in a while I just have to post a feel-good story.

Michael Moore, who has become enormously wealthy with what he calls documentaries, twisting and rearranging facts, quotes, photos, etc for his own aggrandizement, is being sued by a mere American Soldier.

Of all things, An American Soldier!!! That is just such sweet justice.

I have no idea what the Soldier’s chances are against the mega-millions Michael Moore can throw into legal fees. Isn’t that ironic? Michael Moore who proclaims himself the champion of the little man is anything BUT a little man himself.

A double-amputee Iraq-war vet is suing Michael Moore for $85 million, claiming the portly peacenik recycled an old interview and used it out of context to make him appear anti-war in “Fahrenheit 9/11.”

Sgt. Peter Damon, 33, who strongly supports America’s invasion of Iraq, said he never agreed to be in the 2004 movie, which trashes President Bush.

In the 2003 interview, which he did at Walter Reed Army Hospital for NBC News, he discussed only a new painkiller the military was using on wounded vets. “They took the clip because it was a gut-wrenching scene,” Damon said yesterday. “They sandwiched it in. [Moore] was using me as ammunition.”

Damon seems to “voice complaint about the war effort” in the movie, according to the lawsuit.

But what the father of two from Middleborough, Mass., was really talking about was the “excruciating” pain he felt after he lost his arms when a Black Hawk helicopter exploded in front of him. Damon wasn’t expressing any opinion about the war, the suit charges, but rather extolling the drug.

“I just want everybody to know what kind of a guy Michael Moore is, and what kind of film this is,” said Damon. He has appeared in two films attacking “Fahrenheit” -“Michael Moore Hates America” and “Fahrenhype 9/11.” …

Particularly outrageous to Damon is the fact that Moore never interviewed him or asked his permission to use the old clip.

I hope this gets media attention, if for no other reason than giving this Soldier the opportunity to regain his reputation, his dignity and his honor.

It would also be pretty nice if Moore got to share some of his wealth. Since he advocates so sincerely for socialism I think he should have the opportunity to put his enormous money where his enormous mouth is.

Media Coverage of Haditha

I was getting myself all worked up again over the MSM coverage of the Haditha incident. When I got home from work and turned the news on the little news people were explaining how the ‘troubling situation’ has shaken the government all the way up to the White House.

They then played a little segment of an interview with the President from earlier today in which he says it is troubling. [source]

Well, I happened to have seen that interview earlier today and the little segment they played was his response to a question. ‘Are you troubled by the killing of civilians in Haditha?’ (notice the formation of the question).

President Bush seemed to be getting a little irritated because the purpose of the media being there was supposed to be in support of his meeting with the president of Rwanda, Paul Kagame. Instead the press kept asking him about Haditha. He kept replying that if (IF) the allegations were true, it would be dealt with appropriately and through the proper channels.

He replied to one question that he was ‘troubled’ by the early reports’. In the context of what I saw earlier, I had taken it to mean he was troubled by the WAY IT WAS BEING REPORTED as there was an ongoing investigation and it was premature to make such allegations.

That is being reported in the news this evening as ‘The President is troubled by the early reports of the Haditha killings’.

Also, please notice ‘Haditha KILLINGS’. The word KILLINGS is used repeatedly and consistently in reference to these allegations.

On the news this evening I have not heard a word, not one single solitary word indicating that there might be a shadow of a doubt as to the entire episode. Nothing about recordings from radio transmissions or drones overhead. It is being reported AS FACT.

They are also replaying a little portion of an interview with the Marine that was injured in the bombing before the ‘alledged incident’. The poor kid is being used.

All we hear from that interview is him saying that if they saw one dead and him assumed dead they were probably blinded with raged…. etc.

I have yet to hear what question he was asked that he was responding to or any other part of that interview. Suppose the question was something like, ‘If the other Marines in your unit were to do something like that, what do you suppose would have caused them to get out of control like that?’ For all we know, he might have repeatedly told them there was no way he could imagine these men he had fought beside would have done the things they are being accused of. Remember, he had been badly injured in the bomb and had been taken from the area before the ‘incident’.

It is sad to me that the MSM is so hungry for headlines and to rush to a story that they throw aside all reason and the well-being of the country. They apparently are willing to try and condemn Marines who are trained for warfare based on one part of one side of a story. They have taken it and run with it with no regard for the truth.

It’s all about a juicy story and if it can make George Bush look bad, all the better. (George Bush is who they really hate, remember they support the troops but ….).

So ….. I started this writing I WAS getting myself worked up (past tense). Thing is, I WAS, I was getting there. Then I read this.

HAHAHAHA. So it’s not just the United States that has a media bent on staging news! ROFL

The Media Monster, the story, the video.

It seems there might be some media bias in Germany as well. [h/t Blogmeister]

Elephants in Academia has an excellent analysis of the media distortions!

Amy Proctor and California Conservative have identified a couple of intriguing pieces to the puzzle. But surely, SURELY, the insurgents wouldn’t lie to the reporters. Surely, not. She also points out that Aljazeera is reporting along the same lines as the American media:  “Haditha Massacre Is Iraq’s Mai Lai ”

My Vast Right Wing Conspiracy is contemplating the matter and I can’t wait to hear what she has to say once the matter is vetted. And a few of her thoughts on media insanity.

The Party the Marines Spoiled in Haditha

From the Guardian Unlimited

The executions are carried out at dawn on Haqlania bridge, the entrance to Haditha. A small crowd usually turns up to watch even though the killings are filmed and made available on DVD in the market the same afternoon. One of last week’s victims was a young man in a black tracksuit.

Like the others he was left on his belly by the blue iron railings at the bridge’s southern end. His severed head rested on his back, facing Baghdad. Children cheered when they heard that the next day’s spectacle would be a double bill: two decapitations. A man named Watban and his brother had been found guilty of spying…

A three-day visit by a reporter working for the Guardian last week established what neither the Iraqi government nor the US military has admitted: Haditha, a farming town of 90,000 people by the Euphrates river, is an insurgent citadel.

That Islamist guerrillas were active in the area was no secret but only now has the extent of their control been revealed … A three-hour drive north from Baghdad, under the nose of an American base, it is a miniature Taliban-like state. Insurgents decide who lives and dies, which salaries get paid, what people wear, what they watch and listen to.

The Guardian reporter did not say he worked for a British newspaper. For their own protection interviewees cannot be named.

There is no fighting here because there is no one to challenge the Islamists. The police station and municipal offices were destroyed last year and US marines make only fleeting visits every few months.

The court caters solely for divorces and marriages. Alleged criminals are punished in the market. The Guardian witnessed a headmaster accused of adultery whipped 190 times with cables. Children laughed as he sobbed and his robe turned crimson.

Two men who robbed a foreign exchange shop were splayed on the ground. Masked men stood on their hands while others broke their arms with rocks. The shopkeeper offered the insurgents a reward but they declined.

DVDs of beheadings on the bridge are distributed free in the souk. Children prefer them to cartoons. “They should not watch such things,” said one grandfather, but parents appeared not to object.

One DVD features a young, blond muscular man who had been disembowelled. He was said to have been a member of a six-strong US sniper team ambushed and killed on August 1. Residents said he had been paraded in town before being executed. (the US army denied that)

There was a rumour that Zarqawi, Washington’s most wanted militant after Osama bin Laden, visited early last week. True or not, residents wanted to believe they had hosted such a celebrity…

Will this get the coverage the accusations against Our Marines have gotten?

Murtha’s accusations give these beasts a free pass to continue their terrorism of the townspeople, the training of the children to be terrorists. Accusations if this nature made to an international audience make the USA appear too weak to break them for fear of the American media. Even when/if an American or Brit has been disembowelled for their entertainment.

A CNN reporter who traveled with these accused Marines and just can’t believe what they are being accused of. She writes:

I was with them in Husayba as they went house to house in an area where insurgents would booby-trap doors, or lie in wait behind closed doors with an AK-47, basically on suicide missions, just waiting for the Marines to come through and open fire. There were civilians in the city as well, and the Marines were always keenly aware of that fact. How they didn’t fire at shadows, not knowing what was waiting in each house, I don’t know. But they didn’t.

Also, it turns out a drone recording and recordings of radio contacts show the Marines were under small arms fire at the time of the incident that Congressman Murtha calls ‘cold-blooded murder’.

Murtha - Cause and Effect

There has been a spike in insurgency in Iraq and Afghanistan the last few days.

The seditionist news stations are trying to figure out why. They think we have to work harder to ‘win their hearts and minds’.

They blame the insurgents for killing and injuring reporters over the weekend. And in the next breath blame Marines for killing insurgents.

Apparently, they and we have learned nothing from previous wars, Vietnam in particular. You can’t have a ‘kinder, gentler’ war. You must go in and stop the resistance with force and fear.

Otherwise, THIS is what you get. Locals screaming at the cameras because of a truck accident and throwing rocks at our Soldiers. Locals AFRAID we will not be tough enough to support them if they take a stand against their previous torturers.

The locals will not turn in the insurgents because they are afraid our Soldiers will be pulled out by a weak country who gives in to the pressure of the press and leave them to the mercy of those who are still there.

This war can be won - but only if there is an ABSOLUTE resolve on the part of the American people to back up our Soldiers.

When the rest of the world thinks we might pull out at any given moment, the insurgency will be worse, the coorperation will be less and the war will be lost.

Murtha and others of his ilk need to SHUT UP and let the military do their jobs. He has been a saboteur for his own political agenda. He has shamed himself and his country.

President Bush needs to stand STRONG on this and not relinquish control of the military to the media. If he pulls out troops before the mid-term election in order to quiet the unrest of the pampered, elitist, VERY LOUD MINORITY, I will lose all respect for him and all that has been done so will have been for nothing.

If that happens and if Murtha continues his treasonous chatter, we are in for a VERY hard, bumpy ride.

I seriously, earnestly hope that we will not stand for it. WE, the American people are the only ones that can put a stop to this madness. We don’t talk about ‘exit strategies’. We exit when we win. We don’t talk about getting troops out, they leave when it’s over.

Don’t stand for sending our boys to war without the means and the will to WIN!

Congressmen who willfully take actions during wartime that damage morale and undermine the military are saboteurs and should be arrested, exiled, or hanged.

Bush Bad - Dean Good

I like open posts and blogrolls because I’m always finding blogs and information I might not otherwise come across if it weren’t for clicking on the links. I thought I’d point out a couple of things I just learned while reading blogs. It’s important so listen closely.

1. Bush is bad! I found this out at 123Beta. As it turns out, the tax cuts Bush implemented that have so successfully resulted in a booming economy so that Ann Coulter could conquer welfare recipients!!! (opps, I’m sorry, I forgot, the news says the economy is bad, bad, bad. Forget the lowest interest rates in 30 plus years, highest stock market ever, booming housing market, lowest unemployment, forget all that, it’s an illusion, the economy is BAD!)

If you want to know what the next Bush Conspiracy Theory is just go to The George W. Bush Conspiracy Theory Generator. This will make all our lives much simplier and might actually put CNN out of business!

2. Dean is good! It’s true! National Democratic Committee Chairman Howard Dean is attempting to lead the Democratic Party down a more spiritual path. He appeared on the 700 Club with Pat Robertson and says he hopes to do it again because religion seems to be a winner. He is appealing to the dems to start doing and saying things that give the appearance that the dems have the moral high ground.

Until someone gets upset with them, of course. Like when gay and lesbian activists got mad cause Dean said he thought marriage was between a man and a woman on the 700 Club. But I think he probably knows they all understand he just said that cause he was on the Christian Broadcasting Network, so it doesn’t count.

Dean says he plans to have a half-day training session on spirituality at the Oregon Democratic Convention to help democrats start getting used to the idea. The empahsis will be on training democratic activists how to get religious people to vote democratic. [source]

It sorta reminds me of the time I heard Dean say he could relate to Southerners by putting a shotgun in the back window of a pick-up truck. [he was serious when he said it] That’s when I knew he really did understand!

Okay, let’s recap. Bush is BAD and Dean is GOOD! Got it?

I added visuals for those of you who need a little extra help.

McCain Used to be a Warrior

What happened to him?????

Take a stand MCCAIN!

Memorial Day 2006

When World War II broke out my father left his young wife and daughters and went to fight the Japanese in the South Pacific.

He served in the Makin, Caroline and Solomon Islands.

He was a Marine, and as it is with the Marines, he remained a Marine the rest of his life. He was enormously proud of his service to the country and at the same time humble about his contributions.

As men do, he rarely if ever talked about it in any detail.

But he wasn’t the only hero in this story. My mother stayed behind and cared for their two daughters and waited for him to come home. She, like other women whose husbands had gone to war, had to make ends meet and keep the family together during the years her husband was gone.

When the country was at war, everyone did their part. Sacrifices were made both overseas and at home. The country pulled together and did whatever was necessary to win the war so the country would be safe again and the boys could come home.

So on Memorial Day I am grateful for my own personal military heros, my parents, my husband and my son. Especially my father as he is gone now and I miss him terribly.

It’s a day of honor and sadness as I think of all the young men who died on battle fields around the world and didn’t have the opportunity to grow old.

We owe them everything.

A Succession of Honor

I watched the National Memorial Day Tribute a little bit ago. It was a good program …. and a good cry.

The camera shot that got me was one taken when the different branches of the service were being honored. As representatives for each branch marched out to the music the camera panned over the crowd.

In the crowd only a few were standing. Those standing were predominently older men, probably World War II vets. Some Vietnam vets here and there.

As the camera panned the crowd, in one frame there were 3 older men standing and saluting. They stood with seeming difficulty, one leaning on a walker, but still saluting.

In that frame was one young man, probably in his late teens, in uniform, saluting. He stood behind the older men and seemed caught in the frame as an aside - the focus being on the older men.

He stood tall, proud and framed behind and between the men from an earlier era.

The single frame of the photo took me aback and brought a sob to my throat. For some reason it was profound to me.

Those older men had been that young man in an earlier time. They had worn the same uniform and stood as tall and proud as he did today. Some day in the future, he will be as they are now.

All the people sitting and talking between the scattered few who stood to honor our servicemen have those men to thank for their freedom.

It seemed to me a prime example of a succession of honor.

Liberty is Never Free of Costs

If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or your arms. Our Warriors:

Ruthlace gives a very personal and moving account of her remembrances of World War II.

There are really no words to describe my feelings and probably the feelings of many widows of World War II veterans as we contemplate Memorial Day.

They tell me that over 1000 WWII veterans are dying daily now. Those living are in their eighties; but to me they are still young men like my grandson, Josh, who is serving as a Leutenient in the Army geared up to the Middle East.

The WWII soldiers are still, to me, those idealistic, brave, vital, young soldiers who willingly went off to war believing that they were helping to assure the safety and freedom of their families. They were willing to serve in spite of great personal sacrifice. They were certainly a part of one of the greatest generations in our country’s history.

AubreyJ. reports on a U.S. helicopter crash in Iraq’s Anbar Province.

Jack and Charmaine Yoest honor Jack’s father, buried at Arlington Cemetery in a moving tribute to all the Soldier’s buried there.

Laura at The Wide Awake Cafe also honors her father-in-law. And has a photo of the Blue Angels fly-over he didn’t have. Although, the one he did have obviously had much more meaning … [it brought tears to my eyes.]

The Big White Hat honors the Fallen.

Freedom is sacred. It is worth killing for. It is worth dying for. Try as we might we can never truly express gratitude. Gratitude is one of the few things that are truly ineffable.

I started reading An Army Wife’s Life about the time her husband was deployed and she found out she was pregnant. Although I mostly just lurk there, I feel like I’ve kept up with her life as she’s struggled with her pregnancy and duties as a Soldier’s wife while her husband has been deployed. She has a post on the Challenges of a Deployment Pregnancy. Go by and give her some support.

Laura at Code Red*Women for the Troops tells the story of a Soldier who gave his Purple Heart to a 13-year-old who was being honored for his letter writing to American Troops. Oh man!

You Becha I’m a Proud Army Mom posts Voices from the Past.

Anna at A Rose by any Other Name and Seaspook’s Rants both honor our Hero’s Unaware.

Jarhead John celebrates Memorial Day.

The men and women of our Armed Forces, are a shining example of what has made our nation great for close to 230 years, and that is a cause for great celebration.

So does Woman Honor Thyself and You Betcha I’m a Proud Army Mom. Cao has a video she made.

War on Terrorism

Jorg at Atlantic Review wonders Why is Abu Ghraib a cover story again, but not Darfur? [host of the Carnival of German-American Relations]

Why is so much more ink spent on (alleged) US wrongdoings than on the human rights violations in other war zones and crisis regions?

Jorg also looks at successes in the Middle East and concerns about increasing American isolationism.

Hanson worries about increasing isolationism due to the Bush administration’s “unpopular work of trying to restore hope to the Middle East”, while “the aloof Europeans pose as the moderate alternative”

The Liberal Wrong Wing gives his reasons why he thinks Rumsfeld should join the unemployment line.

Remember the 2 Saudi guys who got on the school bus in Florida? Chas says there’s just something not right about that.

Nathan at Church and State is posting about the Two Lying Saudis as well.

Classical Values is also looking at the two Saudis and asking if anyone is in charge. He asks:

I know that everyone is worried about illegal Mexicans crossing the border right now. But am I being unreasonable in asking whether bringing in many thousands of apparently unsupervised Saudi students is a great idea right now?

Patriotic Voices says Victory Requires Time, Patience, Sacrifice.

One of my favorite Hillbillies is evaluating Which Way Will They Tilt. An excellent and insightful article on the principles by which western civilization operates - their own perceived interest (whatever that is at any given moment) - and the ruthlessness with which the west will protect those interests. The direction the west will go is unpredictable.

chezDiva is continuing her memorial to the victims of 9/11. It’s good to remember why we are doing what we are doing. It’s good to remember those civilians who were murdered that day. It’s good to remember what we lost that day.

Politics

Texas Fred at Ace in the Hole reports on the rules of engagement for the National Guard at the border.

Pet [Life ~ Florida ~ Whatever] says Let’s All Play Nice and bring our laws more in harmony with those of Mexico. Stuck on Stupid agrees.

Jack Yoest posts about attending the 2006 Barbara K. Olson Woman of Valor Award Dinner. Condoleezza Rice was the speaker, but his post is mostly about sitting at a table with a Blue Star Mom.

123Beta wonders when Freedom of Speech morphs into harassment.

Alexandra at All Things Beautiful has a taken up the battle to save National Veteran’s Memorials - specifically the Mount Soledad Cross. She has an excellent article with many links to others posting on the ACLU’s attempt to do away with this memorial.
