Cat Stevens Criticizes the Pope
Oh for CRYING OUT LOUD!!!
Now comes the once pop music star Cat Stevens AKA Yusuf Islam to criticize the Pope. Will the hypocrisy NEVER end?
LONDON, England - Yusuf Islam, the British singer known as Cat Stevens before his conversion to Islam, on Sunday added to the criticism of Pope Benedict XVI’s recent remarks about the religion.
Islam, known for his 1970s hits including “Father And Son†and â€Wild Worldâ€, said that the pope quoting from a medieval text, which attacks some of the Prophet Mohammed’s teachings as “evil and inhuman†showed the pontiff was not infallible.
Apparently, Cat was raised Catholic and converted to islam in 1977 following a near-death experience.
Raised Catholic and prominent convert to Islam, Cat Stevens, who now uses the name Yusuf Islam, said in an interview with BBC that the pope’s words proved he was not “infallible.”
“At one point, I used to believe that the pope was infallible,” Islam said.
Cat Stevens, whose real name is Steven Demetre Georgiou, sold over 60 million albums, mostly in the 1970s. His most notable songs include “Morning Has Broken”, “Peace Train”, and “Moonshadow”.
I had a crush on Cat Stevens when I was a kid. I was one of the 60 million that bought his albums. That irritates me now.
I’m thinking WHERE Cat, WHERE was your outrage when muslims cut off the heads of American Soldier’s in Iraq?? Where was your outrage when muslims fire bombed churches because they didn’t like what the Pope said? Where was your outrage when they slit Theo Van Gough’s throat because they didn’t like a movie he made?? Where was your outrage when they shot a nun in the back because they didn’t like what the Pope said. Where was your outrage when YOUR chosen religion of peace beheads, hangs, buries alive anyone who does not behave in the manner they deem worthy?
Does any of that bother you? All you seem to be able to say is that you shouldn’t be judged by how another muslim behaves. I have yet to hear you speak diapproval about girls being murdered for their families ‘honor’ after being raped. I have yet to hear you speak against the destructive riots or the bombings muslims have perpetrated in your own country.
Shut up CAT STEVENS. You got rich in the 1970s singing songs. That does not make you an expert on world events or religion. You have nothing worth while to offer.

Hey, I’m with you. I used to LOVE this guy’s music…even sang some covers of his stuff back in the day (when I used to do small gigs). I am by no means religious, but this “Muslim Outrage” sh*t is really starting to p*ss me off.
And “Youself?” We never hear anything from this moron until it is Islamic indignation time…eg Desert Storm, Iraqi Freedom, Cartoon Mohammed etc ad nauseum.

Yusaf is Arabic for Joseph, so this “Cat” is now “Joe” Islam and ,like you, I enjoyed his music until he decided to board the “Religion Of Peace Train”. What is really sad, is that when you take a guy like this, who has so much notoriety and name recognition, (as the artist formerly known as Cat Stevens) and you watch as he sit’s tight lipped while atrocities are commited by the radicals like the instances you highlighted, it reinforces my belief that most muslims are radicals at heart.
Is he afraid of speaking out against the violence so prevelant in his faith. Is that what keeps these jerks quiet.? FEAR OF THEIR OWN RELIGION.?
He could do so much to quell the violence, and he has a platforn from which to speak.
He recently complained that he was harrassed because he was on a terror watch list. Now we know why. He deserves to be. He is just as guilty as those who are out their murdering people. Disgusting…..

This is exactly the kind of comments that I do NOT understand. For some reason they all think we just don’t understand them. What’s to understand. They hate us and they want us all dead! We get it. They just don’t want anyone else to make that statement.
Cat Stevens does need to shut up. He’s an expert on religion like Tom Cruise is an expert on psychiatry!!

Well, let me ask you - is the Christian religion innocent of those atrocities which you mentioned. I would like to really correct some of the careless people here ! Just to say and question that, how can you lot proudly say out loud that.. oh it was the muslims who bombed up the churches…It was them who behead… It was them who hanged the people!! Well let me just tell you this - those who behead people, who bomb up churches, who hang people(etc.) They are called (here’s a new word for you lot!): Non-Believers so just to correct you how can they be muslims ? And I’ll tell you , that (now) Yusuf Islam is completely right that you shouldn’t be judged by how another muslim behaves.So there !Oh and please read this properly instead of thinking up a comeback first. hey everybody! i am a muslim girl from turkey. i mean nobody asked me about it, i just born into this culture. i respect all your ideas and cat stevens and his speechs seems so stupid and empty to me. what he looks like: totally shit! everything he do in the name of islam is a shame for me and i am sure i represent lots of muslims ideas. hey guys please don’t think islam belongs to arabic countries. because this is the worst part of islam. islam is just a metarial for them to use. man power, easy life… if you want to see islam please visit or search for turkey. learn the reality. what we are doing, how we are living and still how we are fighting with these kind of evil people who surrounded our country.
