Chevez Oil MoneyUS Energy Department to accept discounted fuel from Citgo

“I cannot object to Venezuela being charitable,” the US Energy Secretary Samuel Bodman told Reuters when asked about the reply his office is to give to a controversial discounted heating oil distribution program Citgo Petroleum Corporation -the US refining branch of Venezuelan state oil giant Pdvsa- has been implementing in the United States since last year, as instructed by President Hugo Chávez.

Bodman said in Washington that the US Energy Department would not refuse the sales of discounted heating oil in winter, even if they come from Citgo. For many US citizens, Citgo is the arm implementing the policies of Chávez -who openly opposes his US counterpart George W. Bush.

“I deem it a charitable contribution and I wish more companies did it,” Bodman stated.

Meanwhile, there are Alaskans who are shivering and won’t take Chavez’ oil.

And worse, there are Soldiers putting their lives on hold for years at a time, sleeping in the desert, sacrificing and dying to protect us from these fascists that are trying to undermine our country and way of life. There are American people, living in luxury, who take running water and electricity for granted, who don’t know there’s a world out there in which people don’t have a bed to sleep in. These people can’t even make the sacrifice of not buying oil from a tyrant who is an enemy of our country.

Have we really come to the point that there are so few Americans who have one iota of guts and willingness to put country before self? Are we really such wusses?
