Remembering Fallen Heroes at Christmas

Arlington National Cemetery at Christmas

Today 5,300 fresh wreaths were laid at the headstones in Arlington National Cemetery. Businessman, Morrill Worcester grows, harvests and assembles the wreaths each year and donated them to be placed at the graves of American heros. He has done this for the past 14 years with the help of his neighbors and community.

“Many people there gave the ultimate sacrifice; it’s something you never forget,” Morrill says.

“The reason we do it is because we respect those people so much for what they’ve done for us,” he says.

“You really feel a debt to these people?” I ask.

“I do. I think everyone should,” Worcester says

This year this project has gone nationwide. Wreaths are being laid at 200 veterans’ cemeteries across the nation.

  1. I saw this on the news this evening. What a moving story.

  2. My father-in-law is one of those who received a wreath in Arlington. He was an English immigrant who came to this country to escape the socialized medical system in the UK. He was a Navy doctor and was proud to have served his adopted homeland. I dont even have to watch the video, I can cry just sitting here thinking of him and knowing that he is not forgotten. This will be our second Christmas without him. God Bless America.

Here’s some interesting and/or funny posts from my ‘Good Stuff’ blogroll……

  4. It is 2011, and the wreaths were laid at Arlington National cemetery last weekend for this Christmas season.

To sponsor a wreath (it is never too late), visit wreathsacrossamerica.org — and while you are there, order 1 package of 100 free “thank you” notes for returning military members. You get 100 for the five dollar shipping charge. If you don’t know 100 vets, drop the leftovers off at any house of worship, or go to a local VA hospital.
