Saudi Arabia Banning the Letter X

Muhammad XApparently, the letter X looks too much like the Christian Cross for the liking of the Saudis. It seems there is a fatwa issued on the letter X.

From the NYSun

The letter “X” soon may be banned in Saudi Arabia because it resembles the mother of all banned religious symbols in the oil kingdom: the cross.

The new development came with the issuing of another mind-bending fatwa, or religious edict, by the infamous Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice — the group of senior Islamic clergy that reigns supreme on all legal, civil, and governance matters in the kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The commission’s damning of the letter “X” came in response to a Ministry of Trade query about whether it should grant trademark protection to a Saudi businessman for a new service carrying the English name “Explorer.”

“No! Nein! Nyet!” was the commission’s categorical answer.

The article goes on to explain why ….

Well, never mind that none of the so-called scholars manning the upper ranks of the religious outfit can speak or read a word of English. But their experts who examined the English word “explorer” were struck by how suspicious that “X” appeared. In a kingdom where Friday preachers routinely refer to Christians as pigs and infidel crusaders, even a twisted cross ranks as an abomination.

So after waiting a year, the Saudi businessman, Amru Mohammad Faisal, got his answer: No. But, like so many other Saudi businessmen who suffer from the travesties of the commission, he seemed more baffled than angry. He wrote letters to Saudi newspapers to criticize the cockamamie logic. An article he wrote appeared with his photograph on some Arabian Web sites. It sarcastically invited the commission to expand its edict to the “plus” sign in mathematics and accounting, in order “to prevent filthy Christian conspiracies from infiltrating our thoughts, our beliefs, and our feelings.”

An who said these aren’t reasonable, tolerant, peace-loving people!!! [Remember - we are the fascist who are restricting people's rights and liberties - remember that mkay?]

X-traordinary! I guess there won’t be any X-treme make-overs going on in Saudi Arabia!

It’s suicidal for Americans to continue to believe that the Sauds are our friends! I wonder how many Americans realise that over 80% of the islamic schools inside America are wahabbi controlled! In other words, while our children are being ‘forced to accept that Islam is a religion of peace in a political correct way’ via our school system as they are taught to tolerate and trust the muslims in our midst, that on the other hand, many muslim’s children here in the states are being taught an ideology that is hell bent on destroying us and are taught that Israel doesn’t have a right to exist! God help us when this two sets of generation clash in the USA, because the public schools are teaching deception that is only going to leave our kids as deers caught in the headlights!

That is completely crazy! I thought it was a joke at first.

This is one time I agree with the Saudis. I never liked people you put up signs, Merry X- Mas. I always said get rid of the X and put Christ back in Christmas.

In addition, I suppose now there is no point in asking the Saudis for advice on an eXit strategy for Iraq.

Oops, hit the submit button too quickly - that should read, “I never liked people who put up signs, Merry X- Mas”

Yes, and the CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Corporation) is featuring a new TV series called “Little Mosque on the Prairie” so we infidels can laugh at the antics of a Muslim family living in North America and learn that, deep down, Muslims are just like you and me and that Islam is not belief system whose adherents are bent on world domination, killing kafirs and subjugation of females. Yeah. M’kay.

Go to youtube.com and search for “Little Mosque on the Prairie” to see the first episode, if you like.

I refuse to believe this article is true. First, it references the one Sheikh’s flat-earth comment and apparent fatwas; I just did some research, that is completely untrue. The guy didn’t think that the Earth rotates, but he did not make a law about it and stated that he knew the Earth itself was round. And if the letter X was really a problem for them, how come Malcolm X made it to Mecca? And how come everybody was excited about him and liked him? This is just too much bullshit for me to handle.
