I’ve been reading up a bit on Fred Thompson because I keep hearing people are hoping he’ll run for president. I have always liked him, but frankly didn’t know much about his politics or character. I’ve been finding a few tidbits here and there that are interesting.
Fred Thompson was hosting the Paul Harvey show the other day. He had the following to say about Code Pink and their desire to follow Gandhi’s teachings.
Gandhi’s Way Isn’t the American Way
Collective suicide is no foreign policy.
By Fred ThompsonI feel bad for Nancy Pelosi, AND her neighbors. Anti-war activists from the group Code Pink have been giving her the same treatment the president gets at his Crawford, Texas, ranch. Camping on her San Francisco lawn, they’re demanding she cut off funds to the troops in Iraq.
Besides coolers and mattresses, protesters have brought along a giant paper mache statue of Mahatma Gandhi, who is pretty much the symbol of the anti-war movement. Code Pink was founded on his birthday, and when Saddam Hussein was being given a last chance to open Iraq to U.N. weapons inspectors, posters appeared around America asking “What would Gandhi do?â€Â
And that’s a pretty good question. At what point is it okay to fight dictators like Saddam or the al Qaeda terrorists who want to take his place?
It turns out that the answer, according to Gandhi, is NEVER. During World War II, Gandhi penned an open letter to the British people, urging them to surrender to the Nazis. Later, when the extent of the holocaust was known, he criticized Jews who had tried to escape or fight for their lives as they did in Warsaw and Treblinka. “The Jews should have offered themselves to the butcher’s knife,†he said. “They should have thrown themselves into the sea from cliffs.†“Collective suicide,†he told his biographer, “would have been heroism.â€Â
The so-called peace movement certainly has the right to make Gandhi’s way their way, but their efforts to make collective suicide American foreign policy just won’t cut it in this country.
When American’s think of heroism, we think of the young American soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan, risking their lives to prevent another Adolph Hitler or Saddam Hussein.Gandhi probably wouldn’t approve, but I can live with that.

I also found these statements by Fred Thompson in a Washington Post article a couple of years ago.
The global war on terrorism is not a game from which we can simply walk away when it seems it isn’t going our way.
and
What is weakness? Weakness is when America’s leaders compare Iraq to Vietnam, announcing to the world a faltering resolve to see our mission through.
So far so good. The jury is still out as far as I’m concerned, but I’m liking Fred Thompson right now.

Gandhi’s Way Isn’t the American Way
Right on Fred.Nancy Pelosi is NUTS.Her kids are going to go off the deep end, just you watch,
Where do I vote? I want to vote for President Thompson.
I don’t really know that much about Ghandi but the quotes are shocking. He died at 78 - no heroism for Ghandi.

I was unaware of Ghandi’s quotes, and I certainly disagree with them. As for Fred Thompson, he needs to announce that he’s running for President! I would dearly miss him on Law & Order, but we need him in the White House. Not only would I vote for him, but I’d work on his campaign, too!
Fred is the man we need. Now let’s just pray he accepts the challenge.
Fred Thompson is a Phoenix rising up out of the ashes of the Republican Party. A true Conservative, and one very unlikely to stick the proverbial wet finger in the air to test political winds. This man sees in black and white, and has the uncanny ability to articulate his thoughts the same way. Halleluja!

Thompson is a RINO:
In favor of McCain-Feingold.
Voted against tax cuts in favor of the Clinton “balanced budget.â€Â
Voted against the 1998 GOP budget.
Voted against removing common good export controls.
Voted against tax deductions for college tuitions.
Think Rudy is a social RINO? Thompson is a fiscal RINO.
There is nothing to say about him other than for the last six years while the GOP haws taken it from everyside..he has been out in Hollyowood “play acting” politics and banging some broad thats young enough to be his daughter. X-
He wont ever get my vote.
I understand James Dobson doesn’t think Fred Thompson is a Christian. That’s OK with me. If Dobson had come out in support of Fred, the lefty-loonies would have denounced him as a right wing radical Christion reactionary, etc, etc, etc.
I don’t think Fred needs the backing of Dobson to make a run for the White House. I can’t imagine any Christians voting for Hillary, or Obama. If Fred gets the nomination, he’ll get the votes of the Christian right.
Run, Fred, run!
“Everyone knows he’s conservative and has come out strongly for the things that the pro-family movement stands for,” Dobson said of Thompson. “[But] I don’t think he’s a Christian; at least that’s my impression,”
Statements such as this eviscerate the pro-family movement and Christianity!
Dr. Dobson’s position has denigrated to being that of a political hack.
While I also admire Newt, he is a theorist who brilliantly lectures but who fails to motivate action.
Fred Thompson is a member of the Church of Christ. He just doesn’t wear his religion on his sleeve as others might.
It’s what is in Fred’s heart and his ability (in my opinion) to MOTIVATE Americans to ACT on the moral values that are being suppressed by the secular humanists in our society that is his strength and we need that today.
