Where is Private First Class Keith Matthew Maupin?

Matt MaupinLindaSog at Something …. and Half of Something reminds us that today is the third anniversary of the capture of Private First Class Keith Matthew Maupin by terrorists in Baghdad when a convoy he was in came under attack.

A group called ‘Persistent Power Against the Enemies of God and the Prophet’ claimed responsibility for the capture of PFC Maupin. They showed a videotape of him after his capture and then put out another videotape claiming he had been killed. There is nothing verifying his status. He is not protected under the Geneva convention.

His hometown has not forgotten Matt.

Sgt. Keith Matthew Maupin was always called Matt by his parents, since his father was named Keith. He was a 20-year-old private first class when he was captured April 9, 2004, when his fuel convoy, part of the 724th Transportation Company, was ambushed west of Baghdad.

A week later, the Arab television network Al-Jazeera aired a videotape showing Maupin sitting on the floor surrounded by five masked men holding automatic rifles.

That June, Al-Jazeera aired another tape purporting to show a U.S. soldier being shot. But the dark and grainy tape showed only the back of the victim’s head and not the actual shooting.

His Company remembered him when they returned from Iraq ten months after his capture. The Army promoted him to Sargeant last year.

Please take a moment today to remember Matt Maupin, pray for him and help others remember the only American Soldier unaccounted for in Iraq.

Matt Maupin

UPDATE:
Matt’s parents have a website, Yellow Ribbon Support Center. Please go by and sign the guestbook and let them know you remember and care.
