Michael Yon has a must-read dispatch, Bless the Beast and Children, in which he and the Troops he was embedded with come upon a completely empty village. The village had been full of simple farm people earlier. Where had they gone? Before long, they find the villagers and their animals. al-Qaeda had passed through.

Be warned, the link contains graphic images of the reality of the enemy we are facing and the evil our Soldiers look square in the eye on a daily basis.

As I read Yon’s story I wonder where is the outrage? Where is the condemnation of such acts of savage cruelty? Why is the silence so deafening?

The MSM had a heyday with adolescent hyjinks of some poorly disciplined, not-the-brightest-bulb-in-the-pack, low-level Solders who humiliated some enemy combatants at Abu Ghraib. It was all over the news. Ask almost anyone on the streets and they will give you the sound bites that our Soldiers had tortured poor prisoners. I saw and heard those ‘poor prisoners’ interviewed on TV. They looked healthy and spoke freely against our Nation. They might have had some moments of humiliation but they were not afraid to speak and they were not afraid of us.

The bodies of those captured by al-Qaeda and other islamic jihadist organizations do not get to tell of the horrors they endure at the hands of al-Qaeda. They don’t survive their captivity.

The hoopla over the Abu Ghraib media frenzy gave our enemy an enormous leg up in the propaganda war. Abu Ghraib became a rallying cry for more death and destruction to be wrought upon our Troops. Soldiers were torture, mutilated and murdered on the alter of the exaggerations of Abu Ghraib.

And yet, they are silent on the massacres committed by our enemy. Whose side are they on?

And then there is the Haditha incident. Can there be anything more outrageous than eight Marines kept in custody for years on the word of the enemy? ON THE WORD OF THE ENEMY?

The MSM loved the Haditha Marine story. They took it, ran with it and convicted our Marines of atrocities with nothing more than the hint of accusation from a village over run with al-Qaeda. Even worse, one of our own Congressmen ran with it and put his power behind the accusations.

All of this giving more fodder to an enemy who eagerly takes up the rallying cry and uses our own media propaganda to destroy us. Again, whose side are they on.

Matt Hurley at Weapons of Mass Discussion is pretty clear about which side he believes they are on:

If American media fails to cover this with the same amount of gusto that they have pursued Haditha and Abu Ghraib, they will be demonstrating their preference for whom they wish to win this conflict. The press has to tell the story that evil really does exist in this world. Imagine if the story of the Holocaust was never told because the media was only interested in reporting Allied atrocities. Yes, by failing to treat this war objectively, the media does indeed enable massacres such as this one and history will judge the coverage of this war very harshly.

Oh, never mind. Why worry our little heads over this? Really, it’s just a news story. Besides, it’s way over there. Go to the mall and buy some new shoes. Have dinner with friends. Turn a blind eye.

By all means, turn a blind eye.
