while we’re in Germany
My Soldier Son will be getting married in December in Germany when he returns there from Iraq. We are eagerly anticipating him rotating out of Iraq (after 15 months!) and also his wedding to his beautiful Deutsche Fraulein. I think being in Germany over Christmas will be just perfect and I can’t wait. I’ve even been trying to learn a little German, but that’s been a disaster! Mostly, I can’t wait to see my son. I’ve seen him VERY briefly 2 times over the past 3 years. Its time to see him and actually spend more than a few moments with him. I started to write that he needs a hug - but I need a hug from him.
He keeps asking me what I want to see and do while in Germany, so I’ve been looking around the internet to see. I really just want to see him, but he’s anxious to show me where he’s been living the last 3 years (other than Iraq).

The Bavarian Alps
Whoops. How’d that picture of my Soldier Son and his fiance get in front of the Alps!?!?

The Bavarian Alps
Ah - here are the Bavarian Alps!

Neuschwanstein Castle
Ludwig II of Bavaria was known as The Swan King and this is his castle. Even though Neuschwanstein Castle was only built in the 19th century, it looks like a story-book image of a medieval palace. It was the model for Walt Disney’s fantasy castle and was used in the famous children’s film “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang”.

The Rhine

Munich
The Siegestor (pictured above) translates to Victory Gate in English. It is in Munich, Germany and was originally built to commemorate the Bavarian army. After World War II it was intentionally not fully restored to stand as a reminder of what war brought to Germany.

Frankfurt
Justitia Moon is a statue of the goddess of Justita in downtown Frankfurt. We’ll fly into Frankfurt, of course.

A Winter Sleigh Ride

Kreuzburg Monastery
Apparently this Monastery sits on the peak of Kreuzburg which is called, holy mountain of the Franconians, and is one of the oldest settlements in Europe.

A Christmas Market

The Autobahns
Of course we have to drive the autobahns, but who will drive and how much xanax should I take first? (j/k)

This makes me want to go to Germany!
What a cute couple!
Sending warm “Welcome”s your way. I hope you´ll enjoy Germany - Schloss Neuschwanstein is one of our most wonderful places, as well as the Alpen. Bayern is a great palce to stay. If you´re going to make it close to Dusseldorf (maybe Koblenz, a very nice town to have some “Rhein”-sightseeing) please let me know. I´ll invite you for “Kaffee und Kuchen”.
Driving on the “Autobahn” will be a piece of cake for you, that´s for sure. And the language… well, besides the 3 articles we use… *g* not too difficult, either. But most of us speak English, so you won´t need to learn “Deutsch”
Sending additional hugs to the cute couple, along with best wishes and 1.000 thanks to your son for his service.
Kind regards from Germany,
Sanni
Great photos. I have never been to Bavaria but I have always wanted to see Neuschwanstein
Lucky you. Enjoy every moment. Have a great TT.
Wow..great pics. Have fun P-)
Well thank your son for his sacrifices! And enjoy Germany - it’s beautiful!! Great list!
Wow, these are so gorgeous. You are going to have such a wonderful trip. And you have such beautiful people.
A beautiful place to visit. You must be excited to see your son, his wedding, and Germany all at once!
Have a great time. I lived in Germany for nine years courtesy of the Army and loved every minute of it.
Happy TT!
Hope you get to visit the Lorelai rock if you travel up the Rhine. I went there once, it was an awesome view. And I would SO love to go a proper German Christmas markets, the pretend one they have in a nearby big city here, is just NOT the same.
Those are some beautiful photos. My great great great grandparents were from Germany and I’ve always wanted to go and see how beautiful it is there. My mother went to elementary school in Germany (I forgot where) when her father was stationed there in 1956. Happy TT!
Thursday 13: A Day Without Observances…
My sources tell me we have no official observances to celebrate on September 20. For those of us who try to find something to celebrate every day (the stranger the better) this leaves a great, gaping hole in our observational year. In honor of this…
Oh I’m jealous now! Sounds like you have a really fun trip planned. And that castle…. just, wow.
My brother is stationed in Germany, but is in Iraq now, not quite 3 months into his 15 month deployment. His wife and twin baby boys are here…
I would love to visit Germany one day! Happy TT
I linked to you from 13 PETA Poses, Excerpt: PETA is a detestable, wacko organization, but I love those who protest for PETA by going fur-less. Is there a better way to protest?
Herewith, for your viewing pleasure are 13 images of protesters who have bared it all in their effort to convince you to stop wearing fur, eating meat or fish, and torturing animals.
