An 85,000 acre wildfire that covered only 20,000 acres just yesterday is now threatening the Mount Wilson Observatory. Fire crews had to pull back from Mount Wilson leaving the historic Mount Wilson Observatory vulnerable to the fires raging in Southern California.

Firefighters withdrew from Mount Wilson earlier today. From Bloomberg:

Within 20 years a military smoking ban could be in effect, so says a study by the Veterans Affairs Department and the Pentagon. Tobacco use is on average about 10% higher among active duty military than it is in the general public.

General Macarthur

Reaction to a military smoking ban is about as mixed as it is anywhere else, but when it comes to taking something away from our soldiers It’s a doubly bad idea. Some say that smoking in the military is higher because of the high stress situation that active duty military face; I would tend to agree.

According to the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the US military Muslim outreach effort is clumsy and bungling. Admiral Mike Mullen wrote that the US military is “squandering goodwill and failing to live up to its promises. When did the military make promises to the Muslim world? I thought all of those promises came out of Washington.

Looks like another soldier taking the hit for the short comings of his superiors to me; the US military has been engaged in Afghanistan since 2001, in Iraq since 2003 and much progress has been made in both theatres. The problem seems to be from my perspective the utter incompetence of bureaucrats in Washington.

Kim Jong-Il

It appears that two members of the “axis of evil” are in cahoots with one another just as the Bush Administration had alluded to. The UAE has intercepted a North Korean Iranian weapons shipment that was carrying rocket launchers, RPG’s, and detonators in clear violation of UN sanctions.

Kim Jong Il

Looks like President Clinton’s much ballyhooed trip to North Korea wasn’t as helpful in easing tensions with the commies as first suggested by the MSM. The ship carrying weapons from North Korea, Iran bound was stopped making it the first time a nation has acted on UN sanctions to stop North Korean proliferation of weapons.

Just goes to show you, these two rogue regimes can’t be trusted. They can’t be reasoned with, they can’t be trusted to hold to any type of agreement. Madeline Albright found that out with North Korea back in the 90’s and Bush took the blame for the break down in the “relationship”, there is no dealing with terrorist states. North Korea, Iran are terrorist states bent on causing turmoil not only in their respective regions but throughout the world.

The North Korean ship was seized some weeks ago a report says, the weapons bound for Iran were labeled as “machine parts”. CNN reports that the ship was flying the flag of the Bahamas. North Korea had our media all in a tizzy when it released two journalists after Secretary and Chief Bill Clinton went for a visit. Looks like that could have been a move full of guile.

Iran has been open about its intentions of manufacturing nuclear weapons, North Korea has been just as open about their right to own and operate nuclear power. There really is no reason to think that these two nations are not actively cooperating with one another in this endeavor.

North Korea claims that it has every right to sell arms for its own profit. Iran claims it has the right to buy what it wants because it’s a sovereign nation. The problem with this is the two countries have acted irresponsibly in the past and are a threat to our national and global security.

The North Korea Iran weapons shipment seized by the UAE is not the only incident that has taken place in recent weeks. The AP is reporting that India seized another North Korean ship between The Bay of Bengal and Myanmar and is currently inspecting its contents.

I’m in the mood to rant a little, so I shall, it’s one of the perks of writing for the Right Media Network. Obama’s 9/11 Day of Service is a farce, like everything else conjured up by liberal democrats. I ran across two great pieces on Pajamas Media and The American Spectator that outline exactly what Barack Obama’s idea of service is. The 9/11 Day of Service is meant to do nothing more than detract from what 9/11 actually means to freedom loving Americans.

President Obama

Back in April, President Obama signed legislation that established the 9/11 Day of Service, sounds good on the surface but dig a little deeper and you find something that speaks a little more towards the character and intent of liberals in this country.

The Obama 9/11 Day of Service was part of the Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act, a fancy way of promoting liberal ideals and ideas at the expense of hard working Americans. I’ll throw this in for free, the name Edward M. Kennedy will find its way on a slew of legislative bills from now on, just a thought. From Pajamas Media:

Some 145 years ago, Robert E. Lee and Ulysses S. Grant first met in battle at the Civil War’s Wilderness Battlefield; today another battle had been raging and is now over, seemingly. Wal-Mart, the Nations’ largest retailer has won the right to build one of its supercenters near the Civil War Wilderness Battlefield site that many historians hold so dear.
