Well, well isn’t this interesting. Seems Barack Obama himself and members of his administration have been lobbying Deval Patrick to change Massachusetts law so that he could appoint an interim Senator to fill the vacant seat left by the late Ted Kennedy.

Not that this is surprising by any means, but the administration had previously stated that they were not involved and that it was a state matter. There is no such thing as a “state matter” where democrats and the seat of power are involved.

Deval Patrick, who has long been an advocate for Barack Obama, says that the two men spoke of changing the succession law while attending the Kennedy funeral. All politics, all the time for the White House and democrats.

No, this was not just a casual conversation between friends at a funeral, Governor Patrick also says that White House aides have been in constant contact since the funeral pushing their agenda.

The Massachusetts succession law has been much talked about since Senator Kennedy petitioned the Massachusetts legislature to change a law that he had already succeeded in changing once. Back in 2004, when Mitt Romney was Governor, the democrats thought John Kerry would win the presidency and they couldn’t have a Republican appoint another Republican to the U.S. Senate. Kennedy petitioned the legislature to change the law to a special election.

Now that Massachusetts has a Democratic governor in Deval Patrick, democrats, including the late Ted Kennedy want the law changed back. Hypocrisy to the max. The Massachusetts House voted to change the law, but it has been blocked in the state Senate, for the time being. Here’s an interesting bit of information from the Politico:

White House senior strategist David Axelrod has been lobbying lawmakers to support the bill, and the Massachusetts director of Organizing for America, Obama’s grass-roots political organizing arm, recently sent an e-mail to supporters calling on them to urge their state legislators to vote in favor of changing the state’s succession law

There has been a lot of speculation about who Patrick would appoint to replace Kennedy, the Governor himself has given no indication who would get the nod. Governor Patrick did say that he would sign the bill changing the succession if it made it to his desk.

Wouldn’t you love to have heard the conversation between Obama and Deval Patrick? Maybe Obama is lobbying for Rod Blagojevich to be appointed to the Kennedy Senate seat.

  1. Ya know….back in the day, this would be known as cheating…………..and no one would have tolerated it. We truly are a nation of sheeple :-(

  2. Corrupt self-serving politics IS the legacy of the liberal lion of the senate. Perhaps they should appoint Caroline Kennedy to the position since she couldn’t win an election for dog catcher.
