UPS claims that they are pricing the luggage box to be competitive with airline baggage fees. They also meet airline baggage restrictions so they can be taken along if you decide to check them instead of ship them. The small box is designed to be a carry-on bag if you choose to take it on-board a flight.
Most of us who travel a good bit know the hassle and now the extra expense of taken baggage with us on a plane. If its over 50 pounds, we are forced to open the bag and start picking and choosing what can be left behind or carried on. And then there are always those people who insist on taking with them what has to be the entire contents of their estate and trying to shove it into the overhead compartments. Then there’s the wait at our destination for the bags that may or may not show up in the baggage claim area.
Those extra baggage fees the airlines have started charging lately? The airline industry in the United States made an additional $769 million through those fees during the first three months of 2010 alone! UPS says they want to help us with that. Of course, I’m sure they aren’t adverse to getting a cut of those baggage fees either.
