Anderson Cooper was attacked again, but fortunately remains unharmed. He is reporting from an undisclosed location while other reporters are fleeing Egypt, including Katie Couric and Brian Williams. You can see CNN’s Anderson Cooper’s report below.
Kudos to Anderson Cooper for staying in Egypt even after two attacks during the riots. Even so, my tendency is to withhold judgment about who is attacking whom and why the attacks are happening. Needless to say, being in the midst of falling governments and wars is not for the faint of heart. Needless to say, the reporters who are more than willing to be ‘brave’ by criticizing American citizens are high-tailing it out of Egypt at the moment.
Katie Couric and Brian Williams are safely back on U.S. soil.
What is happening in Egypt is much too complicated and the consequences much too dire to make knee-jerk judgments as to who is in the right and who is in the wrong.
It seems that the American main stream media has taken the side of the protesters. The problem with that is that we don’t really know who the protesters are. We understand that many have legitimate complaints with the government there. On the other hand, there is the Muslim Brotherhood and losing Egypt to an islamic state would be a disaster for the Western World.
Meanwhile, the Obama Administration has taken every side and by doing that has alienated everyone. If Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak holds on to power, he is not very likely to forget how quickly he was thrown under the proverbial bus by the Obama Administration. That ends our closest and most loyal ally among the Arab countries in the Middle East. The protesters aren’t happy with Barack Obama either as they have stated they view him as being slow to take a stance and when he did, his response was weak. They have said they don’t view him as trustworthy or committed to their cause. If Egypt becomes an islamic state, then all bets are off.
As if that’s not enough, we also have the other countries in the Middle East watching all this. Yemen, Jordan, Israel and Saudi Arabia are quite clear now that they can’t count on the United States as an ally against islamic radicals who would over-throw their countries.
One of the protesters said that he felt Obama had no idea what to do and his administration is sending mixed and confusing messages which is only exacerbating the problem. I think that any thinking person can see that. Unfortunately, the main stream media continues to cover up his incompetence in handling these extremely important situations.
My concern is that our Commander in Chief is going to get us into a war through his inaction and his lack of understanding of the dynamics of the conflicts that are escalating throughout the Middle East.
Oh well. He’s having a Super Bowl party with Jennifer Lopez as his headliner. The White House continues to party. Its all about priorities. Why do I have the image of Nero fiddling while Rome burns in my head?
