The U.S. military overwhelmingly supports John McCain over Barack Obama in the presidential election. The results are wider than one would have imagined.

The American military supports John McCain by a 3-1 margin over Obama, 68%-23%. The poll was conducted by the Military Times.

The results are interesting in that they represent no change from the past, according to Peter Feaver, a former member of the National Security Council:

“The military has been perceived as a conservative Republican institution. A lot of people thought that eight years of frustration with the Bush administration was going to undermine that. This evidence suggests that it hasn’t undermined it as much as they thought, at least not yet.”

The results are even more astounding when one considers that results are polarized along racial lines. Black military personnel support Obama by about 80%, much less than the black electorate as a whole but clearly enough to skew the statistics. Among white military personnel, John McCain is supported by over 90% of the poll. This data suggests that Barack Obama is seen as the “black candidate” among the men and women in uniform.

As Barack Obama rails against the Iraq mission on behalf of “the troops,” it turns out that the Iraq War is only the 3rd most important issue to our military. The second most important voting issue is the economy. So what do our men and women in uniform care about the most?

According to the poll, the most important consideration for election a presidential candidate is character. The American military believes that character matters in a commander in chief, and those brave voters support John McCain by a 3-1 margin.

We will be covering the first presidential debate in Mississippi tonight. The video and a transcript of the debate between presidential candidates, John McCain and Barack Obama will be included on this post when they become available.

McCain Obama Debate
McCain Obama Debate

The question up in the air right now seems to be if there will be a debate tonight. I’m guessing that there will be a debate.

It was of interest to me that as the economic crisis our country is facing started coming to a head McCain chose to go to the Senate and do his job and Obama chose to make a statement and spoke of the necessity for ‘the people’ to see him and hear him. What was particularly interesting was the fact that what he was doing this week was sitting in a suite of hotel rooms in Florida studying and practicing for the debate. This instead of doing the work of the people.

Worse yet for Obama, there is some question as to whether the debate will be on foreign policy as originally planned, or on the economy so that it will be relevant to the current crisis. If that is the case, then all of Obama’s studying the past week will be for naught.

There will be an active discussion at Right Pundits and, of course, we will discuss the debate here. The video and transcript will be included below.

New film footage of John McCain’s release from the Hanoi Hilton, Vietnamese Prisoner of War Camp, has been found and released to the public. See the video here.

McCain Release from Vietnamese Prisoner of War Camp – 1973 Video

A Swedish SVT broadcaster, Erik Eriksson (now 71-years-old) has reported that he found the film in the archives as he was doing research for a book he is writing about his experiences as a Vietnam War correspondent.

At the time, Eriksson had contacted a North Vietnamese photographer to film the release of the U.S. prisoners of war. AP Television News edited the video to focus primarily on John McCain as the Presidential candidate.

The release of these prisoners, American heroes, happened on March 14, 1973.

Sarah Palin hit her speech out of the ballpark and won the hearts and minds of the people. Read about it below and see a video.

Sarah Palin

Wow! What a speech and what a natural leader. Sarah Palin’s GOP Convention speech was amazing. Someone on another blog called her ‘dazzling‘ and I think that sums it up beautifully. She showed herself to be fearlessness and her willingness to address the issues right up front.

Her family is absolutely adorable. The attacks on her family from the left in the past week have been absolutely deplorable. She handled that perfectly. She did not whine, she did not get defensive. She just introduced her family and spoke of her pride in them. Her daughter, Piper Palin, followed her around on the stage and imitated her mother’s movements. She is absolutely lovely.

Her husband, Todd Palin, held up the baby Trig’s little hand to wave when he was introduced. Todd Palin is obviously proud and supportive of his wife, and a strong enough man to not be threatened by a strong woman and wife.

Her handsome son, Track Palin was there. He is leaving for Iraq in just a couple of weeks and her pride in him was obvious. I agreed very much with her statement that as the mother of a Soldier, I want someone like John McCain, and Sarah Palin, in office. I want someone who will keep faith with our Troops and never leave them without support and without funding and never, NEVER ask them to leave a fight in defeat.

Her older daughters Willow Palin and Bristol Palin were there. Bristol’s boyfriend, Levi Johnston was there. Her parents, Chuck and Sarah Heath were there. They all beamed with pride and support for the woman who will be Vice President and left many of us believing she has the potential to be the first female President of the United States.

Sarah Palin is made of the right stuff and she showed that very clearly in the speech she gave at the GOP Convention tonight!

Here is the video of her speech for anyone who might have missed it!

Meghan McCain understands what Bristol Palin is having to deal with as the daughter of a prominent political figure. She writes about it on her blog, McCain Blogette.

McCain - Palin Families
McCain – Palin Families

The first political convention I ever attended was when my mom was pregnant with me in 1984 and the Republican Party nominated Ronald Reagan for a second term as President. I have been on political stages and in campaigns since before I could walk or talk. If there is one thing I have learned, it is that it is difficult to establish your identity and independence as the son or daughter of a politician. When I was 14 years old, a reporter questioned my father about me having a hypothetical abortion, had I been pregnant at 14. This reporter’s question single-handedly changed my life. This story comes up in almost every profile written about me and in almost every interview. It’s a rough go being the son or daughter of a politician. I have not known Bristol Palin very long, but there is a certain kinship I feel to her as I do other political daughters such as Chelsea Clinton, Jenna and Barbara Bush and Mary Cheney. You can’t fully understand it unless you have lived it. So I just wanted to let it be known that I support Bristol and the entire Palin family.

Comedian Craig Ferguson gets a video from Governor of Alaska, Sarah Palin, offering him an honorary Alaskan citizenship. He talks about it in the video below.

Craig Ferguson on Sarah Palin

As anyone who watches Craig Ferguson knows, he recently got his American citizenship. He did his comedy thing at the most recent White House Correspondents Dinner.

Well, apparently, about a year or so ago he started trying to get honorary citizenship in communities around America. It went from towns to cities and then to states. He got honorary citizenship in several states, he says, but he got a personal video from Alaska’s Governor Sarah Palin.

Being that its Craig Ferguson, he takes her use of the word ‘succulent’ to have some secret meaning as to his attractiveness to the decidedly attractive Palin. With no disrespect, he mentions that she brings to mind a naughty Alaskan librarian.

Watch and enjoy ….

More on Craig Ferguson.

We are so excited that John McCain picked Governor of Alaska, Sarah Palin as his Vice Presidential candidate. We are appalled that the left is attacking her as being a woman, insulting her on a nasty and adolescent level as a woman (‘She’s just another Bush’) and trying to negate her 13 years of elected administrative experience. Thank goodness that the conservatives are not looking for ‘identity politics’ but for qualified candidates regardless of race and/or gender. The left’s insults only give insight into their nature regardless of the damage control they try to employ later.

Meanwhile, here’s what the Cotillion and other conservative blogging women are saying about all this …..
